Oops! I did it again…

This morning’s run is an ode to Britney.  Come on, admit it, we’re all closet fans!

I enjoyed wine last night with an old colleague and well,  there you have it.  I woke up at 3:00 this morning with tummy troubles.  Which, lasted off and on until my alarm went off at 4:45 am.  Somehow, I managed to pull it together, albeit a little wobbly and groggy when my running partner, Kelly, showed up at my house at 5:45 for our planned 4 mile run.  I knew there would be potty breaks halfway through the route and I did take the liberty to stop at the KYBOs in Valley Junction.  Talk about a sauna!  Whew- those things are killers in the humidity!  Enough said.

I managed to make it back home again before my tummy started rolling again.  I had 20 minutes to get this under control before I had to head out to meet the See Us Run Des Moines kids for another 4 mile run.  I managed and  thankfully (yes, I did actually pray and give thanks to God) there were no unpleasant surprises or accidents on either run.

OI.  When will I learn?

On another note, the See Us Run Des Moines kids never cease to amaze me.  I had great conversations with two of the runners this morning.  I feel like when I was in high school, I was an emotional mess.  These kids seem to have it all under control.  They appear easy, breezy, and laid back.  They like main stream music (in my 30s I’m not even quite sure what that is, as I am still listening to pop- again, admit it, we’re all closet Britney fans!), they are going on mission trips throughout the summer and doing volunteer work.  They can carry on conversations with adults for 45 minutes while we run… they just seem so, grown up!  And again, the task that is before them, getting up early throughout the week to train for a marathon?!?  In high school?  Well, not only was I an emotional wreck compared to these kids, I was also a wimp.  NO way would I have tacked this and joined a program like this.  I ran track in 8th grade and was then diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma, which I then conveniently used as an excuse not to run anymore.  Funny how things change, isn’t it? 🙂
