Where there is desire, there is going to be a flame…

I don’t really pay a lot of attention to music in general.  Lyrics.  Artists. It all runs together in my head.  Which, is probably why I still like the teeny bopper music, because it sticks in your head and pop radio stations basically play the same songs on repeat.

This afternoon I caught the song Try by Pink on the radio.  While I’m pretty sure the song is about a relationship, I couldn’t help but apply it to my run this morning.

I love it!  Exactly the motivation I need!  Just because it burns, doesn’t mean you’re gonna die.  And this morning, I felt my legs and my glutes burn! You know that saying, “it hurts so good?”  Well, today’s run did not hurt so good.  It felt bad.  And painful.  “The ladies and I” ran two loops to equal 12 miles.  The first was just over 8 miles and the second one was enough to cover the remaining miles.  After the first loop, I wanted to quit.  But, that desire, that flame inside me to push myself and experience new heights, kept me going.  Quitting wasn’t an option.  It burned. And I didn’t die.

Despite the burn, we must have looked pretty darn good out there!  As we were running down Kingman Boulevard in Des Moines, two kids (probably in their early teens) were crossing the street and asked if they could run with us.  We said sure and asked if they ran for their school.  They said no and laughed and then they asked if we ran for Roosevelt High School!  Just another benefit of running- it really does keep you young!  Today’s run shaved 15 years off for me!

To that, my friends, I end with a loud CHEERS!
