“Believe that you can run farther or faster. Believe that you’re young enough, old enough, strong enough, and so on to accomplish everything you want to do. Don’t let worn-out beliefs stop you from moving beyond yourself.”
-John Bingham, running speaker and writer
This quote is very timely for me. I battled the “mental monkeys” leading up to Sunday’s Drake Half Marathon. I doubted if I was in shape. I doubted my training. I doubted whether I could hold a tempo pace for the duration of the race. What it came down to is, confidence. I started “positive self-talk” the day before. I reminded myself that I’ve been training hard. I’ve spent more time doing speed work and tempo runs than I ever have before. I could and I would do it!
One of my favorite bible verses is “Anything is possible if a person believes.” Mark 9:23
I choose to believe.
