Quote of the Week

“There are no limits—NONE—to what you can achieve. Don’t ever let anyone tell you what you can’t do. Try for yourself. Don’t let them tell you how fast you can run. You show them how fast you can run.”

-Evan Bass, How Running Changed Me

This quote is perfect this week, as it kicks off the spring season of Girls on the Run.  I’m blessed to have the opportunity to coach a group of 3rd-5th grade girls in West Des Moines once again, including my niece!  This quote sums up perfectly why I coach.  Inspiring these girls, helping them see and reach their potential- a potential that is far beyond what they imagined they could achieve. As I watched their faces light up with excitement as we described the 5K they will be running in May and told them what a big deal this is– that most adults haven’t ever run a 5K, it was truly a special moment.  Just the first of many truly special moments I look forward to sharing with these girls over the course of the next 10 weeks.

  1. Oh that sounds so lovely. I’d love to get into coaching a little and inspire others to give this wonderful hobby a shot. I imagine that it must be so rewarding. These girls a lucky to have someone as positive and experienced as you as their coach! I’m really looking forward to hearing about how they get on!

Huge, huge, huge kudos to you for taking the time to help give these girls such powerful experiences to draw strength from for the rest of their lives!! – Evan Bass
