It has been A week!
An emotional roller coaster as we celebrated my grandma and cherished our memories with her. Saturday was an incredibly beautiful service. The sermon was such a testament to her life and how she and my grandpa raised their children. It was not just a great summary of my grandma and her faith, but a great lesson for all of us as to how we should strive to live our life. To sing the praises of God, all the days of our lives, for He is so good. Christ died to open heaven’s gates and I know that’s where my grandma is.
It was comforting to me on Saturday night, to watch the heavens open up and see the light shine through.
Sunday morning I woke up with determination to run through Tigerton, WI and revisit the memories of my grandma and my childhood. An old and familiar route. Also, one that I’m not sure when I will travel again. It was, in a way, a final farewell. I parked my car across the street from the apartment my grandma lived in prior to moving to a nursing home. I ran down the winding country roads until I came to the farmstead she and my grandpa raised my mom and my aunts and uncles on. I kept running until I came to the house that my grandma and grandpa retired to after the farm. I turned around and ran back, retracing my steps. My pace was slow. My heart was heavy and so were my legs. I’m thankful for that. I’m thankful that I didn’t speed through this run, that I took my time, collected my thoughts, and said my good-byes.
I’m catching my breath.
My condolences for the loss of your grandmother! Glad you were able revisit those memories with a beautiful run.
